Special Considerations for Individual Designs
Asian The Asian eyelid is different from the Caucasian eyelid in many ways. One of the most frequent mistakes plastic surgeons have made is "Americanizing" or "Europeanizing" the eyelid. This results in a very unnatural appearance. Dr. Prasad uses his expertise in Eyelid Surgery to provide Asian patients with naturally appearing eyelids. The "double eyelid" surgical approach preserves their ethnic appearance while allowing them to have a beautiful upper eyelid crease that enhances their features. Take a look at some examples of the lid creases on our Asian patients to understand the differences before and after.
Men
As the world of business continues to become more youth-oriented and competitive, men are realizing that they need to project a powerful and energetic image. With the media's focus on appearance, many men recognize that an optimal physical appearance translates into a better chance for professional and social success. Since the eyes are a focal point of the face, their shape and appearance weigh heavily when someone is determining whether someone looks reliable, hard-working, creative and dynamic. An experienced specialist such as Dr. Prasad knows how to alter his surgical approach so that a man's blepharoplasty makes him retain a masculine appearance. For example, the eyebrows on men tend to be more level while eyebrows on women arch on the lateral third segment. Also, men need to have a different degree of correction or else they will develop a stereotypic feminine look. If you study certain celebrities in the media and pay attention to these features, you will start to note which of the men look almost cat-like or surprised in their appearance due to an overcorrection and an unintended arch of their brow.
People of Color
People of color have a few special considerations. Many of them tend to form keloids, or raised unattractive scars, whenever their skin heals. They also tend to suffer from long-lasting color changes when they heal. However, since they tend to have fewer instances of loose skin, a transconjunctival blepharoplasty, where the surgery is performed on the inside of the lower eyelid, is more often the preferred surgical route. This approach minimizes the two main problems that we have discussed. Another feature with persons of color is that they may have more prominent eyes with deeper creases. In this situation, an upper eyelid blepharoplasty has to be adjusted for the height of the eyelid and the amount of skin that is taken off has to be reduced. Take a look at the following photos and review the differences that have been described.
