The Thread Lift
What is a Threadlift? The Thread Lift is the hottest new innovation to hit the airwaves over the past few months. It involves a revolutionary method to lift sagging areas of the face using specially designed sutures or "threads". These same threads are used in other procedures that are variations on the same theme such as "featherlift", "thread lift", "APTOS Lift", and "Contour Threads lift". All these "lifts' involve similar approaches toward minimally invasive facial rejuvenation by the use of a special thread made of polypropylene. Polypropylene thread is a synthetic material that has been used by surgeons for over 50 years. The thread used in this procedure has been modified by adding fine cogs or anchors along the surface similar to those found in nature How Does a Threadlift work? This "Thread lift" is applied to sagging facial areas by gently shifting excess or sagging skin in an upward direction. Thread Lift technology allows the surgeon to create a fresher, more youthful appearance while preserving and enhancing the natural contours of the face. How does this procedure differ from a face lift? The Thread Lift offers essentially no downtime with minimal incision but does not tighten or lift the skin to the same degree. Therefore, the best candidate for a Thread Lift is a man or woman in their 30s to 60s who has begun to experience signs of facial aging. The other well-suited candidate is someone who has had a facelift in the past and wants a "touch-up".
How long does a Threadlift? Does it hurt? The Thread lift takes about 1 hour depending on the number of threads used for a particular individual. It is performed under local anesthesia and light IV sedation can be given if desired. In most cases, there is minimal discomfort and swelling. Ice compresses are recommended for the first 24-48 hours. Patients can generally return to work or normal activities in a few days to one week. The duration of results varies depending on the age of the patient at the time of the procedure, the degree of sagging, and the number of threads used. A unique feature of this procedure is that the results can be fine-tuned and additional threads may be put in at a later time as needed.
What results can I expect? For many patients, this minimally invasive procedure achieves their facial rejuvenation goals. Individual needs vary of course so it is important to remember that other services may help to enhance the appearance of some people. You may combine this procedure with botulinum toxin to reduce facial muscle activity, dermal fillers such as hyaluronic acid or fat to enhance volume, or peels and laser therapy to improve skin texture. Eyelid lifts and liposuction of the neck are some of the other procedures that can be done in conjunction with a Thread Lift procedure.
