Facial Cosmetic Surgery Questions Commonly Asked

  • How do you determine the cost of eye lift surgery?

A. The cost of eye lift surgery depends on the extent of your surgery. If you are having surgery on your upper or lower lids alone or if you are having them operated on both together, the price varies. Surgery on both upper and lower lids costs less than having them done individually at different times. Generally, eye lift surgery is more expensive if it is done in a hospital as compared to our Joint Commission approved surgery facility. There are many factors involved in determining cost. Until you are examined by Dr. Prasad, it is virtually impossible to estimate the cost. Individual factors such as the extent of aging of the eyes, the quality of the skin, the ethnic background of the patient in order to predict healing abilities, the anatomy of the lids and the skull, the general habits of the patient in terms of sun exposure, diet, and exercise, and the underlying medical condition of the patient are just some of the major factors that must be considered when determining the time and cost of the procedure. • How is eyelift surgery pain handled? How bad is the pain?

A. Dr. Prasad usually gives his patients medication such as Valium before eye lift surgery so there is no discomfort. If you are very nervous or sensitive, Dr. Prasad works with an anesthesiologist who can give you stronger medication. Most patients don't experience very much pain and feel very much in control of it. Top

  • How long does it take to complete an eye lift surgery?

A. Depending on the procedure, eye lift surgery can take two to three hours, including setup. Of course, every patient is different. Top

  • Can eyelift surgery be done with lasers?

A. Yes, Dr. Prasad uses either the CO2 laser or radiofrequency instruments. Since Dr. Prasad is a specialist in eye lift surgery, he uses only the latest technology. A universally acknowledged truth, however, is that while modern tools are crucial to the success of a procedure, the operator of the tool’s skill is of paramount importance. Top

  • Can I wear my contact lenses afterwards?

A. Contact lenses can be worn within a week after surgery. Top

  • How long does it take before I can go back to doing my usual activities like exercising and sexual activity?

A. After the first two days, you can do as much as you feel capable. Lifting and high-impact exercise should be avoided for two weeks. Low-impact exercises can be resumed in one week. Sexual activity can most likely be resumed in two weeks. Swimming may take a little longer, probably up to a month and you should be cleared by Dr. Prasad to make sure that your sutures are well healed before you do it. Top

  • Can I shower or wash my hair after eye lift surgery?

A. Yes, just avoid having the water going directly at your eyes. Getting the eyelid area wet is fine. Top

  • How much bruising can I expect after eye lift surgery?

A. No. Unlike traditional eye lift surgery, since Dr. Prasad uses lasers, there is very little swelling. Most bruising is minimal by about 1 week. Some people do get some lower lid “shiners” but they resolve within a week to two weeks. Our office offers Jane Iredale mineral-based, organic cover-up makeup as well as medical grade skin care to help with the healing process. Top

  • Can I drive afterwards?

A. Since you will have ointment on your eyelids you will have trouble with your vision, and we do not want you to drive home after eye lift surgery. Top

  • What is the downtime after eye lift surgery? After how much time can I return to my normal lifestyle?

A. Most people go back to work in one week. Of course, if you have a job that involves a lot of physical activity, we may ask you to take a couple of extra days off. As for personal activities, we have patients who have gone shopping in just two days after surgery. Top

  • What type of aftercare can I expect after surgery?

A. You will get a printed set of instructions from Dr. Prasad. Basically, you will be applying ointment and ice packs to the eyelids for the first two days. We also recommend taking vitamin C. It is advisable that you have someone with you while you are at home. If you would like, our office can help to arrange a postoperative care home nurse for you for the first two days after surgery. • Can I watch TV after eye lift surgery?

A. Yes, there will be no strain on your eyes by watching TV after eye lift surgery. Top

  • What is Dr. Prasad's training?

A. Dr. Prasad is an ophthalmic and facial plastic surgeon. He specializes in facial plastic and eye lift surgery. Many plastic surgeons have problems with the eye because they are not trained in this area. Since Dr. Prasad is also an ophthalmologist, he will make sure your eyes are healthy and taken care of at the same time. To learn more about Dr. Prasad, please click on ABOUT DR. PRASAD. Top
